The first mention of a church in Großenwieden in 1031. The main parts of the existing quarrystone building probably date from the late 13th century. The church is characterized by extraordinary works of art: Tabernacle from 1300 (later converted into a window). Gothic frescoes from 1488 (discovered and uncovered in 1927/28). The theme in the vault caps is mainly the Last Judgement. Depictions of witches and devils are particularly drastic.
