Certified for the fourth time in a row (for the first time in spring 2016), this short quality hiking trail in the "dream tour" category takes you to three castles in the Weser Mountains, which are quite different in terms of both their history and their appearance:
The highest castle, Paschenburg, is not actually a real castle at all, but a former forester's lodge. It is now a restaurant. From here you have a magnificent view over the lake district of the many gravel lakes between Kleinenwieden and Großenwieden, as far as Rumbecker Berg and over the Weser valley.
The other two castles are "real" medieval castles, but only the Schaumburg on the Nesselberg is still almost complete. The Osterburg on the south-western slope of the Oberberg, on the other hand, is marked by destruction and decay. Here, only a plaque and the different ridges in the landscape are reminiscent of the site of a castle.
The Schaumburg Castle owes its current appearance to Prince Georg von Schaumburg-Lippe, who received it as a gift from Kaiser Wilhelm II in 1907. The 30-metre-high gate tower can be climbed. The Hotel-Restaurant Schaumburger Ritter in front of the Schaumburg invites you to enjoy coffee and cake .
The circular hike leads from the pass where the Osterburg was located, over the ridge of the Oberberg to the Paschenburg and then back in the opposite direction below the steep slope. You will also pass the Springsteine, which are protected as a natural monument, as well as the legendary "Mäumkeloch". The trail has a very varied and interesting flora.
