The first mention of a church in Großenwieden in 1031. The main parts of the existing quarrystone building probably date from the late 13th century. The church is characterized by extraordinary works of art: Tabernacle from 1300 (later converted into a window). Gothic frescoes from 1488 (discovered and uncovered in 1927/28). The theme in the vault caps is mainly the Last Judgement. Depictions of witches and devils are particularly drastic. Below this, two rows of 38 individual pictures (some destroyed) mainly depict the work and suffering of Jesus Christ. The pulpit and baptismal font are early Baroque.
