Treidler-Figuren

Sculpture

The sculpture of the Treidler figures on the Weser cycle path near Hajen shows how some of the people who used to live on the Weser laboriously earned their living.

In the past, some people had to work hard to earn their often meagre living. It was particularly hard for the boatmen. They pulled the barges upstream on long ropes from Bremen to Hannoversch Münden. They were called Hü-Ossen (Hü-Oxen) because, like the draught oxen in the fields, they were driven by their leader. This name probably implied understanding for the hard work involved, but certainly also mockery.

The sculpture was created by Hajen sculptor Jan D. Ehlers and is located on the Weser cycle path near Hajen. There is also a lovely picnic area here.
