The "Edition Einstein" gallery provides an insight into the almost five-century-old art of letterpress printing with lead and wood type as well as picture clichés

In his "Edition Einstein" gallery, book artist Hans Witte provides an insight into the almost five-century-old art of letterpress printing using lead and wood type and pictorial clichés. Picture books, classic literary texts and experimental typography are the focus of his creative work.

Edition Einstein was founded in 1989 as a hand-press publishing house. With the help of a proof press from the fifties, an extensive and still growing stock of old and modern lead and wood typefaces as well as picture clichés and a great desire to produce printed works, the artist goes to work here.

The publishing idea of Edition Einstein is to conceive, produce and publish printed works that are characterized by careful but also creative hand typesetting, charming illustrations using various techniques, high-quality papers and expert bookbinding.

The workshop and gallery can be visited as part of guided tours, demonstrations, workshops, exhibitions and other activities. Visit the gallery and learn more about an exciting form of old book printing!
