The RI9 - first certified as a "dream tour" quality hiking trail in 2024 - takes you through the picturesque landscapes of Möllenbeck, where you can experience the tranquillity and beauty of nature first-hand.
The trail first takes you through fields and forests towards the village of Krankenhagen. Here you can discover a variety of plants and animals.
You walk around the Kahlenberg with its landscape characterized by gravel and sand mining (the so-called "Möllenbecker Kames"). You walk along a stream in the direction of Möllenbeck, but turn off to the boulder garden first. Large boulders, known as "erratic blocks", are displayed there. They were all unearthed during 50 years of gravel and sand mining on the Weser and bear witness to the last ice age. During this period, they were pushed into the Weserbergland by mighty glaciers from Scandinavia. Several information boards tell you about the origin of the boulders and the local flora and fauna.
Those who discover the Kahlenberg and the Möllenbeck Kames landscape as part of the dream tour can then reward themselves with a delicious piece of cake in the courtyard garden of Möllenbeck Monastery. The late medieval monastery complex is only a few minutes away from the Findlingsgarten hiking parking lot and can be easily reached on foot or by car.
Enjoy views of the Weser Valley and the surrounding mountainous landscape.
