Round tour around the "Red Stone"

On well-marked paths, you climb comfortably to the right towards the mountain massif of the Roter Stein. A "historical point" awaits you there at the Bakeder Eichen oaks. Signs tell you that many villagers had to cross the Süntelkamm on this path in order to work in various factories on the other side of the mountain on six days of the week. From an S-curve, a path then turns off to the right, but stay on the main path until you reach another very striking S-curve and continue to the ridge path, which soon turns off to the left at an almost right angle. A refuge with a seating area awaits hikers and cyclists on the 339-metre-high Brunshagen. Later, a plaque commemorates the tragedy of the Panitz children. The three- and six-year-old children had followed their mother into the forest in October 1871 and were found dead days later despite a desperate search by the villagers. Up to this point, the path is mostly uphill. The trail now descends to the left through small quarries and flowers, past the parking lot and the Kreuzstein spring along the stream to the Hotel-Restaurant PappMühle. On the way back, you can enjoy a beautiful view that stretches far into the countryside to the west and to the north to the Süntel with the rock of the Hohenstein. The path is no longer as paved as the ascent. At a shelter behind the ancient cuckoo beech tree - next to which a young oak tree is growing towards its grand entrance - the markings point to a narrow path to the left. It leads down to the edge of the forest to a seating area and then along the southern edge of the Westerberg forest to the road, which leads left back to the starting point.
